Recreational Vehicle Manufacturer Upgrades Wheel Assembly with Cleco Intelligent Spindles System

A leading North American manufacturer of recreational and utility vehicles needed to modernize its wheel mounting operations at a key Southeastern U.S. manufacturing site. Their legacy fixtured spindle system had become a constraint on quality, cycle times, and plant layout flexibility—prompting the search for a more compact, precision-driven solution that could also reduce downtime and simplify future maintenance. To meet these customer requirements, Cleco delivered a turnkey 4-spindle AE Assembly System engineered by Cleco's Auburn Hills Application Center in Michigan. The system featured intelligent spindles with onboard servo modules for precision torque and angle control directly at the joint, a state-of-the-art rotary trunnion, and patented single-field cabling to streamline installation and upkeep.
This upgrade not only freed up floor space to enable leaner layouts and easier rebalancing, but also helped drive tighter tolerances and faster throughput across the line. With proven gains in both quality and speed, the solution offered a measurable boost in productivity for the facility’s diverse production of golf carts, utility vehicles, and electric models.
